JFCRP Symposium

November 29 2016

The JFCRP Symposium was a conversation between community members, researchers, and organizations within Jane Finch to collectively think through the possibilities of collecting research and reports done in the community. This symposium is one of many conversations between residents and researches on research ethics, principles, protocols, ownership and control. Residents highlighted the troubling research relationship between York University and the Jane-Finch community, specifically, around research outcomes that benefited the community in meaningful and sustainable ways. Small group conversations identified themes of power, oppression, inequitable access to resources which set the context and work towards the document for the Research Principles and The Jane Finch Collections. Jane Finch Community Research Partnership

June 15 2016

This event was the first meeting between community and university within the JFCRP project on access to Jane Finch research by the community as well as examining the relationship between the local community and York University. Prior to this, other community meetings such as the Connect the Dots work on asking on research, power, and access was already happening within the community. A number of Community and York researchers came together to share from their perspective, and experiences, their thoughts on these two questions.

  1. What research is being done in the Jane Finch community?

  2. How do you want to access the research of the community?
